Having your photoshoot at home
Photography is so diverse that virtually anywhere can create an amazing backdrop for photos, so clients shouldn’t feel they are restricted to photoshoots done solely within a studio.
Some things to consider with home photoshoots;
Ages – newborn photography is always best done within a studio setting as there is almost always props and sleepy poses involved, and so it is best done within a quiet environment. However older children will feel very comfortable in their own surroundings, personalities shine through when they are playing and running around at home.
Choose your location –fireplaces and big bright gardens will be a warming memory to look back on for all the family, especially in years to come when the children have flown the nest.
Lighting – Lighting is a very important element in photoshoots, so consider what rooms let in the most natural light. Plan ahead and consider the hours that sunlight comes through the windows so you are not rushed, even on overcast days the sun should provide plenty of light for your photoshoot.
Use meaningful props – perhaps you want your photoshoot to have a certain theme, or consider what games your children most enjoy playing at home. Gather the props you need and I will take it from there.
Décor –consider the colours in your home and you may consider buying in some big bunches of flowers or a new rug for the family to sit on in the rooms in which you will have your photos taken, this is a good way to brighten up your images.
Pets – pets are of course part of the family too, and when including your pet in your family photos, it’s sometimes best to stick closer to home. Pets can bring the photo together, especially shy children, but it does help if your pet likes having its picture taken, so this is a factor to consider also.
